Do you have a slow computer?
We can upgrade your computer with the latest parts to give your computer an extra boost. Typically, there are two things that are responsible for how fast your computer is. They are the computer’s memory (also known as “RAM”), which is responsible for how many programs you can have open at any one time, and the “Hard Drive”, a component that stores everything on the computer.
If there isn’t enough RAM in your computer, or if the computer has an older hard drive (that has worn with use over time), it can result in sluggish performance from a computer. We can source and upgrade your machine with more modern, faster RAM, or with a different hard drive with no moving parts (called a “Solid State Drive”, or “SSD” for short). We make sure to transfer all of your old data from your old drive to your new drive, and test thoroughly that your machine is working as expected.
We have upgraded computers and laptops for customers who have owned machines as far back as 2006. Before the upgrade, the computer was taking three minutes to start up. Replacing the conventional hard drive with an upgraded solid state drive and memory, means that the computer now starts up in 30 to 45 seconds from when it is first turned on. Furthermore, customers have sent us Mac books from 2010 to 2011, which, before the upgrade took a few minutes to start up. After the upgrade, the mac would start in around 15 seconds.
We can arrange to have your computer collected and shipped to us. We will then upgrade your hard drive transferring all your data across to the new drive and then send the computer back to you along with the old hard drive in an external enclosure. You can plug it in to your computer (like a USB pen drive) and use it as an extra “external hard drive”.
How much will my repair/upgrade cost?
The cost of repairing your computer can vary depending on the fault and the parts needed to get your machine up and running again, or how quick you want your computer to be. Once we receive your computer, we will be able to diagnose and quote the cost of repair. If the cost to get your machine repaired is more than buying a new computer, then we will advise accordingly. We will be more than happy to provide a replacement of similar/better specification and transfer your files and software across to your new machine (learn more about our laptops and computers here).
How long will my repair/upgrade take?
This all depends on the type of repair and the fault with your machine. We will aim to have your machine back to you within 3 to 7 working days. You will be kept fully informed as the repair is taking place regarding progress.
